Biloxi Schools Named 'Best Community for Music Education'
BILOXI, MS – March 8, 2021 – The Biloxi Public School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. This is the eighth time our school district has been recognized! Now in its 22nd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
Director of Fine Arts Travis Coakley said, " From our terrific elementary music teachers who work with our young students through our performing ensembles at Biloxi High School, we have a terrific and comprehensive slate of programs to offer and something we can all be proud of. GO BILOXI!"
To qualify for the Best Communities designation, the Biloxi School District answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
