2020 Valedictorian & Salutatorian!
Congratulations to our Class of 2020 Valedictorian Piper Lind and Salutatorian Mikayla Herndon!
Piper Lind is a lifelong resident of Biloxi, Mississippi, and lives with her parents, Kurt and Kaara Lind, and her sister Emerson (7th Grade). Piper has been actively involved in numerous clubs and organizations at Biloxi High School, including Student Council, National Honor Society, Key Club, Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society, and Beta Club. Piper has served in elected offices, including Student Body President, Junior Class Vice President, Sophomore Class Secretary, Freshman Class Representative, Key Club Vice President and Secretary, Rho Kappa Historian, and Spanish Honors Society Secretary. Most recently, Piper was selected to be a member of the Biloxi High School Hall of Fame, was chosen the 2019 Shrimp Bowl Queen, and is a member of the ACT 30's Club. Piper has served her community through her participation in Gabrielle’s Trendsetters (2018-2020), Ocean Springs Cotillion (2018-2019), and as a volunteer for Biloxi First Baptist Church’s Vacation Bible School (2019). Piper has also been a dancer for over 15 years, including a competitive dancer for 6 years with Broadway South Dance located in Mobile, AL. Piper currently dances with Infinity Dance Company located in Ocean Springs, MS. Most recently, Piper performed the role of Clara in the Mississippi Ballet Academy and Arts’ production of The Nutcracker. Piper plans to attend the University of Mississippi in the Fall where she has been accepted into the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence and will study Biomedical Engineering.
Mikayla Herndon, daughter of Sandra and Mike Herndon, was born on July 31, 2002 and is graduating with a 4.06 GPA as the salutatorian of the class of 2020 at Biloxi. She is the sister of her twin brother Michael Herndon and older sister Haley Herndon, who is also an alumnae and a current English III teacher of Biloxi High School. Throughout her time in high school, Mikayla had participated in many programs and clubs such as the Biloxi High Marching Band, the Biloxi High Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Tri-M Music National Honors Society, and French Club. She was also selected to attend the Steven Palazzo Leadership Summit and Junior Leadership Biloxi. In band, she served as Vice President for the 2018-2019 school year, President for the 2019-2020 school year, and Clarinet Section Leader for the 2018-2020 school years. For several consecutive years, she was also awarded Highest Overall Average in her classes, some of which include Chemistry and AP Language and Composition. Her biggest personal distinguishment, however, was earning the title of National Merit Finalist and Scholar. This multitude of accolades would lead to her selection to be included in the Biloxi High School Hall of Fame at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. Mikayla plans on attending Mississippi State in the fall and double majoring in Biochemistry and Clinical Psychology.
