BJHS Named PBIS Model School!

Biloxi Junior High has just received notice that they have achieved PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Model School status!  We are the first junior high/middle school in Harrison/Hancock and Jackson Counties to earn this distinction.

Principal Scott Powell said, “I am very proud of this achievement as we earned it by showcasing what we already do, what we have done for years, and what we are about.  Our school climate has changed drastically over the past 6 years. We award privileges to the students with good behavior and good attendance, we work to make school a place where EVERYONE belongs and has someone that they know cares about them and we try to impart social and emotional skills that help our students negotiate these difficult years. All while maintaining our ultimate goal of quality instruction.”

Superintendent Marcus Boudreaux said, “Congratulations BJH on all of your hard work and dedication - a well deserved honor for a fabulous school, staff, and student body! As a school, you all made the choice to develop, cultivate, and nurture a learning environment that is positive for students.  You could have easily taken the easy way out and said that older students wouldn't respond to that.  You have proven that no matter their age, students want a positive learning environment, structure, and recognition for their positive behaviors.”

The broad purpose of PBIS is to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of schools and other agencies. PBIS improves social, emotional and academic outcomes for all students, including students with disabilities and students from underrepresented groups. For more information, visit
