Degrees and Certifications:

Dr. Cathy Gonzalez

My name is Dr. Cathy Gonzalez, and I'm the science teacher for grades 7-12 at the Center for New Opportunities. Mississippi has been my home for quite a long time. I went to Pearl River Community College and then to the University of Southern Mississippi. My teaching degrees are from William Carey University. I have one son and two cats. My son and I enjoy hiking, camping, hunting, and fishing. My son is also a Boy Scout, so we spend a lot of time in the woods. Some of my other hobbies include refinishing furniture, reading, and travel (before COVID, at least). I love watching TV shows and movies, especially Marvel movies (Ironman will always be my hero). I also try to spend time with my parents and other family.  I believe that all of my students have great potential, and the Center for New Opportunities is the place to realize individual potential while working toward self-improvement. I value respect and hard work, and I expect the same from all of my students. I can be reached via email at or via telephone at 228-432-3700. I'm looking forward to a great school year!
