When I was a kid, my parents told me I could be anything I wanted. They later clarified that this did not include my ultimate dream of becoming a butterfly, which was a real bummer because The Very Hungry Caterpillar had led me to believe that the result of eating and sleeping a lot would be gaining the ability to fly. But my dreams didn't stay crushed. I ended up at the University of Mississippi and pursued a passion for literature and writing, earning my B.A. in Secondary English Education. Later, I attended Fairleigh Dickinson University for my M.A. in Creative Writing and Literature for Educators.
This will be my eighth year of teaching. In that time, I have taught English in grades 6, 8, 9, and electives for 11-12. I started out in Coffeeville, MS, went to Olympia, WA, and finally made it back home to the Gulf Coast and taught in Pascagoula before joining the Biloxi Indian team.
My husband, Mark, and I have been married for 12 years, and we have two daughters: Adele, who is five, and Eleanor, who is two. Anyone who is a parent of young children know that their hobbies are pretty much my hobbies, too, so we all enjoy swinging and watching Bubble Guppies. I enjoy reading books without pictures on occasion, and in my sparse free time I love escape rooms.
We have planned a year of exciting and challenging study for 8th grade ELA. I am delighted to be a part of the Biloxi Indian Nation, which is - let's be honest - so much cooler than being a butterfly.
