Ms. Ruby Hughes

Special Education-Day Transition Teacher

Hello!  I am a Biloxi transplant and my first year was absolutely wonderful!  Within a year's time, I have grown so much.  I love my school and the great people I work with!!!  I am so looking forward to this year! I am originally from Louisville, MS and I have 17 years total of working with students with disabilities.  Six of those years were in a mental health environment. This will be my 14th year as a special education teacher and for someone who never wanted to teach, this has been the most rewarding career of my life!!!  My previous experience outside the classroom includes the following positions: Day Treatment Specialist for a counseling agency and Mental Health Specialist at a Behavioral Treatment Center.

I am currently serving as the 8th Grade Special Education Chair.  I am also pursuing my Ed.S. in Educational Leadership, with the hopes of securing a future leadership position, to continue being impactful.  I have degrees in Sociology and Criminology, Special Education, and Technology Education.

In my spare time, I love being at home in peace.  Having peace is essential to me!!  I love photography and cooking, especially baking and sharing with those around me.  I also enjoy meeting people (I don't meet strangers :)), traveling, crime books and movies, encouraging others, but most importantly, working with students with disabilities and being with those I love, as well as those who love me!!

I look forward to being a resource to you and your family.  If there is anything you may need, do not hesitate to contact me.  Together we can accomplish the goal of ensuring that your child has the best possible opportunity for academic success.  Go Indians!!!
