My name is Dawn Torries and I am the Art Teacher at Nichols Elementary. I graduated from William Carey University in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Art Education. I am currently working on a Master's in the Art of Teaching with a focus on Elementary Education. It is my 10th year teaching art and I LOVE my job! I could not picture myself doing any other job. On top of being a teacher, I am also a working freelance illustrator and graphic designer. Art has always been a passion of mine and I love telling stories through illustration. I live in Gulfport with my husband, Jeremy, and my two kitties, Freya and Angel. I am excited about this year and we are going to make this the best year in art yet! I cannot wait to make art with you!
In our art room, we believe in getting our hands dirty! Students will be working with a wide variety of media, from drawing and collage to painting and clay. We explore a wide range of topics, such as famous artists throughout history, different cultures and techniques, while incorporating the Elements and Principles of art into our lessons. There is also a huge focus on literacy and using art to tell a story.
