BHS Student Wins Big With Business Plan
Congratulations to Anthony Murray for winning $1000 as "Entrepreneur of Year" and $350 as 2nd Place State Winner for his Business Plan. This is the third consecutive year that Biloxi has won the STATE title “Entrepreneur of the Year."
Big congratulations, also to Caitlin Beckendorff and Tammy Thompson for their great Business Plan Presentations.
This competition is the Statewide Business Plan Competition hosted by the University of Southern MS Entrepreneurship Department. This program allows students to develop a business plan through their high school curriculum. They have the opportunity to present their Business Plans to a panel of professionals in the business sector as if they were requesting a loan to start their business. The judges consist of business owners, bank loan officer, representatives from the Small Business Administration, Innovate MS, and other business representatives.
Biloxi High School Business Management program had three students to place in the top 20 in the state out of 500 competitors during the Regional Competition. These students were Anthony, Caitlin .and Tammy; Caitlin placed third in the Regional Competition and won $50.00 for this title. Their success earned them an opportunity to compete at the State level for cash prizes that range from $200-$1000.
The Business Plan Competition has provided a tremendous avenue for students to discover and develop their talents whether they use these skills toward a degree or just use these talents to bring in extra revenue. I find great pleasure in being part of helping them discover and use their talents. Biloxi Management students have had great success in this program - Mrs. Fantroy and Biloxi are very proud of you!
