Term 1 Teacher: Mary Edelen E-mail: Mary.edelen@biloxischools.net Telephone: 228-435-6166 Teacher’s Web Site: www.biloxischools.net Click on North Bay/Faculty Important Dates: Midterm progress report: Common Term Assessment: Report card: Grading Scale A=90-100 B=80-89 C=75-79 D=70-74 F=below 70 I=incomplete Grading follows the policies of Biloxi Public Schools. A mid-term progress report and a report card following the end of each term are issued. The student’s current grades are available via Internet IOD. (http://iiod.ssts.com/Home.asp?state=MS) C.R.E.A.T.E. Objectives: This is a general overview of what the teacher will teach and what the student is expected to master. Students will complete the following objectives/outcomes: Thinking Skills-Students will demonstrate the use of higher order thinking skills Creativity- Students will demonstrate the use of the creative thinking process to solve a problem in a thoughtful, creative, and useful way Group Dynamics- Students will demonstrate the use of various leadership styles, respect for other’s viewpoints, and affective interpersonal relationship skills Communication- Students will demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively by developing listening skills, responses, and effective oral/written communication Research- Students will demonstrate the ability to identify topics/problems, conduct investigations using various sources, and develop a product and present results Self-Directed Learning- Students will demonstrate the use of self-motivated investigations into areas of personal interests and task commitment Social/Emotional Development- Students will explore experiences in life skills Visual/Performing Arts- Students will be exposed to the visual and performing arts Career Awareness- Students will explore the options and requirements in career choices Assessments: Student assessment will be based on teacher observation, rubrics, and self/peer observation. Homework/Assignments/Projects: Students will complete the majority of projects in class. Should a student fall behind, he/she may be required to work at home on certain portions of a project in order to complete the task in a timely manner. Course Requirements: Students will be required to complete tasks in relation to the course objectives/outcomes. These may include logic assignments, small group problem solving activities, and oral/written presentations. Reteaching and Retesting: Students will be allowed to redo an assignment based on his/her own observation of needing such, or if the teacher deems it necessary.
 
 Qualifications
Bachelor of Science from U.S.M., Master of Education from William Carey, Master's Endorsement in Gifted Education, Leo Seal Recipient, Best Buy Grant Recipient, Allen Barton Excellence in Teaching Award, National Board Certification in Early Adolescent English Language Arts, twenty-three years of teaching experience.
