Grading follows the policies of Biloxi Public Schools. A mid-term progress report and a report card following the end of each term are issued. The student’s current grades are available via Internet IOD. (http://iiod.ssts.com/Home.asp?state=MS)

Reading Objectives: This is a general overview of what the teacher will teach and what the student is expected to master. Term_Taught 4 The student will use word recognition and vocabulary (word meaning) skills to communicate. The student will use word recognition skills for multi-syllabic words. Use knowledge of vowel digraphs, diphthongs, and r-controlled letter-sound correspondences to decode unknown words. Read 200 to 300 high frequency and/or irregularly spelled words in connected text. (A second grader should read approximately 90 to 100 words correct per minute in connected text by the end of second grade.) The student will use syllabication types (e.g., open, closed, r-controlled, vowel team, vowel-consonant + e, consonant + le) to decode words. The student will manipulate and analyze roots and affixes (e.g., un-, re-, mis-, pre-, -s, -es, -ed, -ing, -y, -ly, -er, -est, –ful, and -less) to understand unfamiliar words. The student will identify and use synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms. The student will use context to determine the meanings of unfamiliar or multiple meaning words. The student will use reference materials to determine the meaning or pronunciation of unknown words (e.g., personal dictionary, elementary dictionary, glossary, teacher, and/or peer as a resource). The student will apply strategies and skills to comprehend, respond to, interpret, or evaluate a variety of texts of increasing length, difficulty, and complexity. Text structures – sequential order, description, simple cause and effect, etc. The student will analyze texts in order to identify, understand, infer, or synthesize 0 information. Answer literal and simple inferential who, what, when, where, why, how, and what if questions. Answer literal and simple inferential questions about main characters, settings, and events. Answer literal and simple inferential questions about characters' actions, motives, traits, and emotions. Identify the main idea and some details in narrative text or the topic and some details in informational text. Determine simple cause and effect relationships. Identify simple fact and opinion. Draw conclusions based on information from narrative and/or informational text. Identify and discuss the theme of a text. The student will recognize or generate an appropriate summary or paraphrase of the events or ideas in text, citing text-based evidence. Retell a story orally and in writing including characters, setting, problem, important events, and resolution. Arrange in sequential order a listing of events found in narrative and/or informational text. The student will analyze, interpret, compare, or respond to increasingly complex literary text, literary nonfiction, and informational text, citing text-based evidence. Make connections between self and characters and events in text. Identify favorite passages and explain why the passage is a favorite, citing text-based evidence.
Assessments: A miminum of (5) test grades to be recorded will carry the weight of 90% of the final term grade. These grades will be taken from chapter/unit tests. The Common Term Assessment (CTA) will carry a weight of 10% of the grade for the term.
Homework/Assignments/Projects: Homework and daily assignments/projects are to be completed and returned on time. Assignments not completed before the end of the term will receive an "Incomplete " until the work is completed or made up.
Course Requirements: Complete homework/daily classroom assignments/projects are to be turned in complete and on time in order for the student to receive full credit and/or grade.
Reteaching and Retesting: A student will be allowed an opportunity to retest within 10 days of receiving his/her test grade. A notice will be sent home notifying parents of a failing test grade. **TERM TEST WILL NOT BE RETESTED** Students will be required to meet with the teacher during designated times throughout the school day. Students must complete these tutorial sessions that cover skill assignments within that 10- day period to be eligible to retest.
Additional Comments: Refer to homeroom teacher web page for class information. Please check your child's planner for homework assignments and daily behavior. Parents make sure to review communication folders that will be sent home every Tuesday evening. Make sure to sign and return folders to school by that Thursday . |

Math Objectives: This is a general overview of what the teacher will teach and what the student is expected to master. Term_Taught 4 (Chapters 12 – 15 in Math Connects) Understand and represent relationships among numbers and operations (addition, subtraction, and multiplication). Compute fluently using effective strategies or rote memory. Justify addition and subtraction of two- and three-digit whole numbers with and without regrouping. Round up to three-digit whole numbers to the nearest hundreds. Determine and compare the value of money up to $5.00 using the appropriate symbols for dollars and cents. Analyze patterns, numbers, relationships, and functions. Model situations and solve equations that involve the addition and subtraction of whole numbers. (Limited to 3-digit addition and subtraction with regrouping) Estimate, identify, and apply measurable attributes. Select appropriate tools and units, estimate, and measure: length to the nearest inch, foot, yard, centimeter, and meter. capacity to the nearest ounce, cup, pint, quart, gallon, and liter. weight to the nearest ounce, pound, gram, and kilogram.

Language Arts Objectives: This is a general overview of what the teacher will teach and what the student is expected to master. Term_Taught 4 Comp. Obj. Questions The student will express, communicate, or evaluate ideas effectively. The student will use an appropriate composing process (e.g., planning, drafting, revising, editing, publishing/sharing) to compose or edit. Planning • Use a variety of graphic organizers (e.g., Venn diagram, bubble maps, story maps, etc.) to generate and organize ideas. Drafting • Begin to transfer thoughts from graphic organizers into sentences and simple paragraphs. Revising • Begin to revise sentences and/or paragraphs for organization, to add details, and to clarify ideas. Editing • Edit for capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. Publishing/Sharing • Publish writing by displaying, retelling, and/or reading written ideas.
The student will compose descriptive text containing specific details. The student will compose narrative text with a beginning, middle, and end. The student will compose informational text with a main idea and supporting details. Reports The student will generate questions and use one source to locate the answers. The student will use Standard English to communicate. The student will use Standard English grammar. Subject-verb agreement Adjectives (e.g., possessive, comparative, superlative) Adverbs The student will use Standard English mechanics to compose or edit. Write words and sentences legibly. End punctuation (e.g., period, question mark, exclamation mark) Quotation marks (e.g., quotations) Spell words commonly found in second grade level texts The student will use correct and varied sentence structure. Analyze sentences to determine purpose (e.g., declarative/telling, interrogative/question, exclamatory/strong feeling, imperative/command or request). Compose simple and compound sentences.
Assessments: A miminum of (5) test grades to be recorded in Spelling, English and Writing. The weight for each subject are as follows English(40%), Spelling (30%) and Writing (20%) of the final term grade. These grades will be taken from chapter/unit tests. The Common Term Assessment (CTA) will carry a weight of 10% of the grade for the term.
