February
We are excited about our progress since Christmas break! Continue to discuss and encourage your child to make positive choices each day. We are learning how our classroom is a class family and how our choices affect others. Our key topics this month are integrity and patience.
In Language Arts we will continue to practice all letters and sounds introduced. We will use writing to focus on letters and sounds.
We are beginning to blend sounds to read short vowel words and fingerspell (sound out) words to write them. We have begun learning that some words are called red words (sight words); you can't sound them out, you have to see them and remember them. We are beginning to write using phonetic spelling of words. When you practice with your child encourage him/her to write the sounds heard in words; it is ok if it is not spelled correctly.
Sight words to practice: the of and a to in is you that it he was for on are as with his they I at be this have from or one had by words but not what all were we when your can said there use an each which she do how their if will up other about out many then them these so some her would make like him into time has look two more write go see
Each afternoon is dedicated to Writer's Workshop (6+1 Traits of writing) to build class authors.
Remember to practice spelling words each week for Friday's test!
In Math we will continue addition and begin subtraction. We will continue counting to 100 by 1's, 5's, and 10's. We are naming coins, counting money, and beginning measurement.
In Science/Social Studies we will continue to learn about Winter, Famous Americans, and Space.
Be mindful to check your child's Take Home folder daily for the behavior code and
special notes.
