3.   Write about the setting. Tell the time and place in which the story happens.

4.   Make a list of the main characters and write a brief description of each character.

5.   Give a brief description of the plot. Just tell the main idea. Do not give every detail.

6.   What is the conflict of the story? The conflict is the problem of the story.

7.   How was the problem resolved, or what is the resolution? Tell how the characters’ problem is solved.

8.   Tell the author’s purpose. Is the story written.....

•      to entertain an audience
•      to inform the audience of facts
•      to persuade the audience to think the way the author does about the subject?

9.   What is the tone or the mood of the story? Tell me how it makes you feel.
