Welcome to Ms. Talley’s Drama Class
Dear Parent(s) or Guardian(s),
I am Ms. Talley, and your child is in my Drama class this year. I would like to provide you with a brief summary of some of our classroom activities and procedures. Thank you for taking time to read them. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 435-1421 after 3:00, via e-mail at toiresa.talley@biloxischools.net, or ask the secretary to schedule an appointment for a conference. Thank you in advance for providing me the opportunity to teach your child. I look forward to a successful and exciting school year!
Responsibility and organization are keys to seventh grade success.
My primary objective is to instruct your child in accordance with the framework guidelines as set forth by the Mississippi Department of Education. I want my students’ experience at Biloxi Junior High to be an enjoyable and positive one.
Daily objectives and important dates and deadlines are posted on the board weekly and daily. Students are also given reminders in class. I encourage students to record all important dates and deadlines in their planners.
Every student is encouraged to participate in class. Learning is an active experience. Each student has something important to contribute to the class.
I feel it is a privilege for me to teach your child this year, and I care about each and every one of my students. My expectations are high, and my discipline plan is in effect and is applied fairly and indiscriminately so that the learning process may occur. I frequently make positive phone calls home, as well as contact parents when misbehavior or a problem occurs.
Progress reports are sent home at mid-term. If a student’s performance is borderline, additional progress reports will be sent home.
Each student has a file folder in the classroom that contains his/her papers for the term. You are welcome to view his/her folder at any time. Please send a note with your child if you wish to view this folder at home.
Students are expected to keep all handouts, notes, and other important materials in their regular English folders. Please encourage your child to organize his/her folder to help him/her study for a quiz, test, or a term exam. Term exams are new for seventh graders, and it is imperative that instructional materials, notes, and other resources are maintained in an organized manner so they are able to fully prepare themselves for term exams.
Assignments are to be completed in blue or black ink, preferably, or in pencil. I welcome assignments, such as poems and essays, to be typed on a computer. Students may also include clip art to illustrate their work or add a personal touch.
Homework and projects must be completed and handed in when due. If a student does not have his/her homework or project, full credit may not be given. If a student needs additional time to complete work due to an illness or other extenuating circumstances, please do not hesitate to inform me.
11. Tutoring is available in the mornings before school from 7:15 a.m. until 7:45 a.m. If a student needs to make up a test, it is to be completed during tutoring time and not during instructional time. If a student cannot make up the test at this given time or the test is deemed too lengthy to be completed in the allotted time, I will provide an alternate date or time.
If your child is absent, please encourage him/her to make up all work and ask for any notes that he/she may have missed. The appropriate time to make up work and ask for assignments or notes missed would be during tutoring/academic time each morning at 7:15, with the exception of Thursdays. Thursday is my duty day.
As the school year progresses, students will be introduced to new procedures, if necessary.
Again, thank you for taking the time to read this information sheet. Please feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to teaching your child this year. Together we can make many positive things happen for the students of Biloxi Junior High School.
Yours in education,
Tess S. Talley, NBCT
