ELEMENT POWER POINT PROJECT

Due: Friday—September 23, 2011

An element will be selected by you during your science class. You will have three weeks to complete the PowerPoint project. The PowerPoint may be turned in early. Students may email the PowerPoint to the teacher, bring it in on a flashdrive, or save the PowerPoint to the student’s school H-drive to show the teacher on a class computer.

Science Requirements:

·        Minimum of 15 slides (10 points)

·        The 1st slide must have the student’s name, class period for both classes, teacher’s name in both classes and the name of the element (5 points)

·        The last slide must have the resources the student used to gather the information: name/page in the textbook, name/page of a library book, website addresses. (10 points)

·        Element’s symbol, atomic number and mass number (5 points)

·        Melting point and boiling point for the element (5 points)

·        Number of protons, neutrons, electrons (5 points)

·        Classification: metal, nonmetal, metalloid (5 points)

·        Bohr model of the element’s atomic structure: number of energy levels and how many electrons per level (5 points)

·        State of matter at room temperature (5 points)

·        Date of discovery (5 points)

·        Who discovered the element?  (5 points)

·        Name origin---from what language (5 points)

·        Uses for the element (5 points)

·        The element is obtained from where (5 points)

·        At least 3 pictures of the element of how it is used (10 points)

·        A printout of the PowerPoint --- handout with 6 slides per page in grayscale---to be given to the teacher on or before the due date (10 points)

Example of Title Slide:

TITLE (BOLD AND BIG…SHOULD BE THE NAME OF THE ELEMENT)

YOUR NAME (FIRST & LAST) (SIZE IS IN-BETWEEN THE ONE ABOVE AND BELOW)

SCIENCE TEACHER’S NAME AND CLASS PERIOD (NOT AS BIG)

COMPUTER DISCOVERY TEACHER’S NAME AND CLASS PERIOD (SAME SIZE AS ABOVE)
