COMPUTER DISCOVERY
One (1) Carnegie Unit
Grade Category Weights:
Activities = 25%
Tests = 55%
Term Exam = 20%
Course Requirements: Each student will be required to keep a Computer Discovery notebook. This should be a 1” three-ring binder with inside pockets. Pocket folders are unacceptable. This binder is to contain all notes, class work, handouts, tests, and projects. A weekly journal is to be included in the notebook contents. Every journal entry must exhibit the rules of writing a cohesive paragraph and consist of 3 to 5 complex sentences. Topics are posted weekly and paragraphs will be graded.
Journal Entries
This is the form students should use for their journal entries. Pretend this is a page in your notebook and follow this format.
LAST, FIRST ####
JOURNAL 1
(double space before first journal topic)
JRNL 1-1 08-15-08
Type your paragraph for your first entry in this location. Remember that each paragraph must be at least 3 to 5 sentences long– preferably more. All paragraphs must be grammatically correct, with correct punctuation and spelling.
(double space before each journal topic)
JRNL 1-2 08-22-08
Start here for the second entry. Use the same rules for each entry and continue until each week of the journal has been typed.
Activities: Lessons are due 3 days after the lesson is assigned. A grade of 0 will be recorded if the lesson is not completed on time. Students have one week to make up uncompleted lessons without losing points on their daily grade. Since computer competencies are sequential, before going on to new assignments all lessons must be completed even if the assigned due date has passed . Activities = 25% of term grade.
TECHNIQUE-CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION GRADE
All students are graded daily on both Keyboarding Technique and Classroom participation. Everyone starts with 100 points. Points are deducted for failure to comply with teacher expectations and proper technique.
Technique: (Keyboarding)
Keep feet flat on the floor.
Keep eyes on the screen.
Keep fingers on the home row keys.
Sit correctly in the chair.
Keep elbows to your side.
Classroom Participation:
Write down the assignment daily.
Talk only when given permission.
Remain at assigned computer station.
Stay on task.
Do not distract others.
Missed Tests: Usually, unless the teacher determines otherwise, all missed tests must be made up on the day of return. If a test is not made up, a grade of 0 will be recorded. Test grades = 55% of term grade.
