REASONS TO WEAR UNIFORMS

(Written by a former BJHS band student)

There are various reasons to wear uniforms.  Some of those reasons are showing unity, pride, and to represent a group as a whole.  Wearing uniforms gives each person a sense of belonging and security, whereas alone might cause someone to feel inadequate.  When a person is part of a group, they are most likely to give 100% rather than hold out alone.

Unity creates the oneness necessary to make a group experience successful as a whole and gives credence to working together.  Uniforms give that experience whether it is a school group, work group, or professional group.  Some examples would be school bands, sport teams, musical groups, and artistic groups.  Even in the professional standings, many groups choose to wear uniforms to show unity and pride of representing themselves as a whole.

Showing pride for your school or professional group is easy to recognize through the use of uniforms.  All one group can easily be represented just by a shirt of the same color and pants the same style and color.  Uniforms do not necessarily mean a big elaborate dress outfit, but something that can say this is my school, my band, and my group.  Rather than saying this with words, it can be said with the correct wearing of a uniform.

Wearing a uniform shows pride and produces the look of a whole unit working together as one.  Whether representing a school, a social group or a professional group, the uniform puts the icing on the cake and show the oneness needed to become a whole unit.

Any experience a band member, social group, or a professional group will ever remember will be their group as a whole not as one.  Each member makes up the “band” and should show that pride by representing him or herself as a whole.  They should always wear their uniform with pride.
