I was born August 13, 1955 at Randolph Air Force Base.  My parents are retired Master Sergeant Robert C. Crowell Sr. and Etna R. Crowell of Biloxi.  I was interested in music at an early age due to my father’s influence and membership in the Air Force Band early in his career.  I was a member of the school band and graduated from Biloxi High School in 1973.  I attended Perkinston Junior College from 1973-1975 and graduated with an Associate Degree.  I attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg from 1975-1977 and received a Bachelor of Music Ed. Degree.  I attended the University of Southern Mississippi from 1981-1984 for post graduate work and received a Masters of Secondary Ed. Degree.  At the request of my school principal, I enrolled in an Administration Certification program at William Carey College on the Coast from 1996-1997.  I received my AA 486 Administrator Endorsement with a GPA of 3.7.  I currently have 35 years of teaching experience in the state of Mississippi.

My first employment was with the Harrison County School System.  I organized, started, and instructed the first sixth grade elementary band programs at Lizana, North Gulfport, and Saucier Elementary Schools.  I left the Harrison County School District for a position at Nichols Junior High School within the Biloxi Public School District.  I developed the program at Nichols from 120 members to 230 members during a five-year period.  I was transferred to Biloxi High School in 1983 and worked two years as an assistant band director and one year as the Michel Junior High Band Director and Assistant High School Band Director.  My next assignment was back at Nichols Junior High School as Director of the Nichols Band program.  I have worked at the same position from 1986 until the consolidation of the Nichols, Michel, and Fernwood schools into Biloxi Junior High School.  In conjunction with my duties as Band Director at Nichols Junior High School, I worked as an Administrative Assistant to our Principal and Assistant Principal.  My duties in this area included resolution of classroom discipline referrals, book room, and the organization and maintenance of Fixed Assets at Nichols Junior High School.  I am presently assigned to Biloxi Junior High School teaching Advanced Band, Intermediate Band, and Beginner band students.  I also assist with the Biloxi High School Band.  I am an active member of Phi Beta Mu, International Band Masters’ Fraternity, and was elected to the Executive Board of the Gulf Coast Band Director’s Association as Treasurer for a six year term.

I would like to thank the parents and grandparents of all the students I have taught over my 34 years in the Biloxi Public School System.  I could not have made an impact on your child if it was not for your support and dedication throughout my teaching career.  I am retiring from teaching band after 35 years of service effective May 25, 2012.  I have loved teaching instrumental music to all my students and will miss that part of what I do everyday the most.  You are left with the absolute best band instructors anyone could have worked with in Biloxi.  I was proud to call them colleagues and still proud to call them friends.  Please make sure that our band staff and program of instruction are continually supported by our district and community. I look forward to seeing our band program grow and prosper under our present band staff.  Thanks again for the honor and privilege of teaching band within the Biloxi Public School System.
