Hours of Operation

The Media Center will be open each day from 6:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

Circulation Policies

bullet

Students may check out regular books for a two-week period.

bullet

Teachers may place books on reserve to be checked out overnight or for one hour only.

bullet

Teachers may also check out books for their use and/or entertainment

Sending Students to the Media Center

bullet

Students may come in during their lunch period and before and after school without a pass.

bullet

During class periods, each student must have a pass from the teacher.

bullet

A daily record is maintained of students entering and leaving the Media Center if you have a question about a student’s presence.

bullet

A teacher should not send more than three students to the Media Center unsupervised

Scheduling Classes into the Media Center

The Media Center has 2 computer labs with 30 computers each with Internet availability for classes to use for research, word processing, and multimedia presentations.

We will be glad to teach you & your students about the available programs.

To schedule your class into the Media Center, contact Mrs. Benton or Mrs. Fields by email, phone, or in person.

Use of Videotapes

Please request videotapes at least 5 days in advance. 

bullet

To request a videotape, please complete a video request form.  These are kept in the file cabinet in the mailroom.

bullet

Turn in the request form to the principal.

bullet

When the request is approved, it will be given to the Media Center and we will get the videotape for you.

Video Resources

bulletThe District Media Center has a collection of videotapes purchased for classroom use.  A list of these videos is available in the District Media Catalog (formerly the Red Book).

Videotapes from an Outside Source

If you are bringing in a video from any source other than the District Media Center,  an Outside Source video form must be completed.

bullet

These forms are also available in the file cabinet in the mailroom.

Turn in the request form to the principal.

Videotaping Requests
 
bulletRequests for videotaping in a class should also be directed to the BHS Media Center.  All requests for the taping of programs as they are broadcast and for the loan of videotapes from the tape library should be directed to the Biloxi High School Media Center.

Request for Purchase of Instructional Resources

If you find instructional resources (videotapes, dvds, etc.) that you want the Media Center to consider for purchase, complete an Instructional Resource Request Form (from the Media Center).

Equipment Needs

Equipment that is to be used daily by a teacher (such as an overhead projector or a tape recorder) may be checked out on a long-term basis if the equipment is available.  Requests for long-term loans should be made directly to the Media Center.

Copier

bullet

A copier is located in the Media Center, primarily for student use.  Teachers are asked to use the copy services in the main office, except for single copies or emergencies.  In case of an emergency, a teacher should make no more than 10 copies.

Transparencies

Materials for making transparencies are available in the Media Center.  The copier may be used by the faculty to make transparencies.

 Poster Printer

This machine is located in the District Media Center.  It will enlarge printed material from sheet size to poster size and make banners and posters.  (Materials for the Poster Printer must be purchased by each Department).

Lamination

bullet

The District Media Center has laminating services available.  Please send any material to be laminated to the BHS Media Center.

bullet

Laminated materials should be for the classroom only.

Ellison Lettering Machine (Schedule)

The Ellison Lettering Machine presses out letters, numbers and shapes in a variety of sizes which are ideal for decorating bulletin boards, etc. The machine circulates to schools throughout the year.  It will be at Biloxi High School in the Media Center on the following dates first semester: 

                        October 20 - October 31            

                        December 8 - January 2  in the DMC

Dates for second semester will be posted as soon as they become available.
