Dear Parent:

The 2008-2009 school year has begun and we are pleased you have entrusted our school in the important role of educating your child.  There are many exciting and wonderful opportunities in front of us as educators and parents and we know your child will continue to grow and learn at Biloxi High School.

As the school year progresses we will be sharing information about individual student and school achievement, the state curriculum frameworks, state and local assessments, and other relevant learning topics.  The information about these topics will be made available to parents during meetings, conferences, posted on our web pages, and provided in communication updates.

We are proud to inform you that all of our teachers, staff, and administrators are highly qualified under the regulations of the state and the federal law “No Child Left Behind”.  This means that each teacher has a degree in the area where the teacher has been assigned to teach.  Any parent who wants to review and / or discuss the specific qualifications of their child’s teacher should contact the principal for a conference.

This letter serves as notification to you that as the parent of a child who attends Biloxi High, you are entitled to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher(s) and paraprofessional staff who may be working with your child.

You are also entitled to the following information concerning your child’s teachers:

·      Whether the teacher has met State qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade
            levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;

·      Whether the teacher is teaching under a provisional status through which State
           qualifications or licensing criteria have been waived;

·       The baccalaureate degree major of the teacher and any other graduate certification or
            degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certification or degree;
            and

·       Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their
            qualifications.

We are committed to excellence and that begins with having a highly qualified person in every position.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact the principal’s office.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Pamela Manners, Principal

Biloxi High School
