Reminder:
As a student in a college-level class preparing for college-level tests, it is your responsibility to read each chapter that we are studying and continue a spaced practice regimen for previous information.
There are many, many resources that I have made available for you to use that will aid your encoding of information outside of class (Study guide, PowerPoints, crib notes, practice databases, and the wealth of information on the Myers site that includes flashcards, quizzes, tutorials, videos, and other tidbits). Remember that I am available to you and your classmates; just ask for help if you need it!
Week of February 13-17
Monday: Test on Chapter 7, Learning (Click here for Study Sheet and drill questions. See also PowerPoint and Crib notes
Tuesday: Begin Chapter 10, Intelligence
Independent Study Assignment for Chapter 11: Motivation and Work
Read the chapter and either take detailed notes, create an outline, or make concept maps.
Create a study aid for all vocabulary words, both bold and italicized.
Create an informative slideshow of no fewer than 25 slides (incorporating images and text, but not PARAGRAPHS) that highlights an aspect of the chapter. You must have a Works Cited or a Bibliography slide, and cite not only the Myers text, but two valid outside sources (no blogs, Wikipedia, or “Joe Schmo” homegrown websites).
Take Web quiz 1 and 2 and post ONCE to my instructor gradebook.
Complete the PsychSim tutorial “Hunger and the Fat Rat” and take the PsychSim quiz that corresponds. Either post your score, screenshot it and email it to me, or print it.
Weigh yourself at the beginning of the break and keep a food diary that has at least 4 entries per week. Email to me or submit on paper.
NOTE:
If you do not have a computer and need to work on some of the computer-based elements, you may need to go to the public library or go to a friend's house. "I don't have a computer" is not an excuse in a real college course, nor is it an excuse in my college-level course.
Here is a link to the Harrison County Library System's page so that you can find the one closest to you and their hours. http://www.harrison.lib.ms.us/libraries/wb_lib.htm
If you do not have PowerPoint, you CAN do a slideshow in GoogleDocs, but you will need to get a Gmail account and go to Google Documents once signed in. From there, you can create a slideshow completely online and access it when you get to school or to another computer. You can even email me the link to it to turn it in.

Homework:
Reflect on the question, “What has been the one most important influence in your life?” Respond in a brief informal essay of at least five paragraphs (informative mode, proper structure, may use 1st person, may use contractions, may have implied or three-point thesis). You do not need to type this, but you must respond fully to the prompt by describing the one influence, whether it is a person or thing. Some may choose to discuss their parental influence, or the influence of a single person. Others may choose to describe the influence of religion or education. It is up to you.
Reminder: 50 flashcards are due tomorrow.
Tuesday, Oct. 11
Read Chapter 4, take notes, and complete 50 flashcards (most of you began this before the break).
These should be front and back from information in Chapter 2 IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE THESE ALREADY. Number each card at the top right corner. Vocabulary and concepts are ideal for this, as well as people and their contributions (vocab term on the front, definition on the back, for example). I recommend that ONE card must have a rough drawing of figure 4.1 on one side, with the labels on the other; TWO cards must have half of figure 4.2 on one side, with the “identical” and “same sex only” on one side and the other half with “fraternal” and “same or opposite sex” on the other. ALL cards must be formatted correctly and be complete. Remember, NO LATE WORK.
Class Activity: Jigsaw Learning/Teaching We got into numerical groups to learn terms and then teach them in alphabetical groups. Tuesday is learn, Wednesday is teach. (NOTE: because of PSAT, we moved teach to Thursday for period 2-5)
