| Rebecca Pettigrew is Biloxi
Public Schools 2003-2004 Teacher of The Year. Becky has taught at Beauvoir
Elementary in the Biloxi School District for ten years. She currently teaches third grade
in a Looping Classroom, where she keeps the same students for 2nd and 3rd
grades. Her favorite part of the Looping concept is being able to build close
relationships with her students and their parents over the two year period. During the 2002-03 school year Becky was selected as the Beverly Briscoe Teacher of the Year by the Biloxi Rotary Club, she also received the Golden Apple Award from WLOX/Chevron Refinery, and the Golden Apple Award from the University of Southern Mississippis Gulf Coast Alumni Chapter. Mrs. Pettigrew is a National Board Certified teacher and holds a Masters Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Becky is an active member of the Mississippi Association of Educators where she has served on numerous committees and led workshops to inform colleagues about current educational reform, such as the No Child Left Behind legislation. For the past two years Becky has served on the State Superintendents Advisory Committee. She also mentors colleagues seeking National Board Certification and opens the doors of her classroom to University of Southern Mississippi teacher candidates for observation of her teaching practices. Mrs. Pettigrew is married to attorney Albert Pettigrew; they have a daughter, Jaime who is a junior at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. Becky is the daughter of Jane and Jimmie Roberson of Charleston, MS. Her brother Marshall Roberson resides in Greenville, Ms, and her sister, Amy Berry lives in Clarksdale, MS. The Pettigrew family resides in Ocean Springs, where they are members of the Wesley United Methodist Church. |
