3rd Graders from Mrs. Nelson's and Higgins' Classes Build Their Own Universe!
I made
planets out of plastic eggs and bouncy balls, my mom helped me think of it. Two of the
planets belonged to my cat!
My planets were made on a clothes hanger!
It was a family project. My dad helped me paint.
Some solar systems hang from the
ceiling.
My project was so big, my dad had to carry it in!
Some planets are made from rock and some are made of
gas.
We used Mardi Gras beads and balloons. Some of us included
the planets' moons.
My planets were made from styrofoam balls. My planets had a
whole lot of glitter on them.
This project was fun! That project was easy to make.
Mrs. Chambliss helped me make my solar system.
I liked to make planets
because it involved art.

You can make the solar
system out of things around your house like pipe cleaners, cashews, bottle caps, popcorn
and cotton balls.
I learned that Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and Pluto is the farthest from the
sun. Saturn has a ring around it.
I learned that Uranus is bigger than Neptune, Jupiter is wider than all the other planets.
Neptune and Pluto's orbits cross.
All the planets go around the sun in an orbit. Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun.
I learned that the sun is the hottest star. The sun is a ball of fire. Pluto is the
coldest planet.
I learned that the sun is a star. Saturn has rings made of ice.
