The following are links to concept maps created with  Inspiration software. The students were asked to tell how their lives were different after Hurricane Katrina. 

The following are statements written by the students of Beauvoir Elementary about experiences they had after Hurricane Katrina.  

       I saw people helping me when there house was damaged. I’m glad that everyone is ok. I love the way people are helping and giving.

       After the hurricane I helped a lot of people and a lot of people helped me. The one thing I did was pass our food for the church.

       My dad and I are helping out neighbors by giving them food.

       I saw people helping out and giving ice, food and shelter. Katrina took lives and houses. It’s so sad.

       Well my mom’s fried Joe came and to get me because my insulin had to stay cold so Joe got a plane ticket and me Joe flew done together to washing state for a month and I had a great time too.

       Me and my dad were putting down tarps on roofs.

       Some church people were giving us food, water and things we need. I helped clean up my houses.

       At the New Life church they were handing out food, water, ice, shampoo, etc. They were also serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  They were giving out toys, books and little toys babies could play with. Just the little tings people do is great.

       A lady I met in Alabama at Wal-Mart offered us a place to stay and shc offered to go to church with them.

       My friend gave us some water and ice. I gave them some food, water and ice. We took care of them and they took care of us.

       Someone who lost their house was staying at my house.

       Churches are giving food, waste and clothing to people who lost everything.

       During the hurricane my family gave water and food tou our neighbors. Our church was giving stuff to people that lost their stuff.

       My aunt in Chicago sent my grandma and grandpa and I clothes because we lost everything. She is nice and I help clean a lot of people’s yards.

       Somebody game me some school supplies.

       We gave ice and water. I saw people giving Beanie babies and games out to kids. I helped people clean their yards, I helped my mom clean our pool.

       I saw people giving other people free food, toys and stuff to clean up with at a church.

       The Red Cross gave us food and money.

       I’m thankful for my cousin who gave us a trailer for my home.

       Red Cross gave my family and I some money and clothes.

       Extended stay America gave us free stay for 14 days.

       After the storm our neighbors and my family supported each other. Every night we’d go outside and play games and talk.

       People from all over  the world helping other people.

       We let a lot of people from Yates stay at our house. Tupelo sent a lot of gas, water, food and a lot of stuff. Almost all the stores we went to were giving Hurricane Katrina discounts.

       Something I did is I helped the church out and we started giving out supplies and other stuff that you need such as toothbrushes, diapers, food, baby food, soap and towels.

       We went to America Thrift Store. We went in a circle and thy gave us fruit bars, milk, juice, granola bars and teddy bears.

       The kindest thing that someone did to me after hurricane Katrina was bring lots of food to my house.  I am very happy that my house didn’t’ break down.

       After Katrina my mom’s beast friend was very nice to use by letting us put our trailer on her lot. She even made dinner for us almost every night!

       Red Cross provided food and water, how ice.

       The thing someone did for me was to help us pitch our tent so we had a roof over or heads. The Kids Kamp people helped us. Thanks!

       The Red Cross and FEMA helped my family and I said thank you.

       When Katrina past by it was very sad. A lot of people gave me school supplies and money for my birthday and I thank them.

       I wanted to thank the churches from other states.

       Somebody put a tarp on my house.

       The Red Cross gave my family some food, waster, blankets, shovel and a rake. They are good people.
