J.L. Scott Marine Education Center Visits Beauvoir Students

The staff of J.L. Scott Marine Education Center is now visiting schools with a traveling exhibit. The Marine Education Center and aquarium were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina so now they are bringing the Education Center to students in their school.  The Kindergarten through third grade students of Beauvoir were treated to an educational "field trip" in their own school!

Mrs. Hunt is dressed as a pitcher plant!

Showing the children what a pitcher plant looks like.

Destiny is adding a part to the "Mrs. Hunt Pitcher Plant."

Hair brushes represent the bristles in the pitcher plant that trap insects.

Chandee is adding a bug to be eaten by the pitcher plant.

..more bugs!

and more bugs!

The hat represents the part of the pitcher plant that keeps water out.

Mrs. Hunt is a complete pitcher plant now.

First graders learn all about pitcher plants.

We learned about sharks, look closely for the shark's teeth.

Children are studying the jaws of the shark.

We're learning about sharks and alligators that live on the coast.

The next room was reptiles-he's got a snake!

Christopher is looking at how big the shark's teeth are.

We got to feel the skin of the snake. It feels soft.

The snake's name is Red.

He found Red by a lake.

Snakes live near water.

We got to touch Red.

Next he showed us an alligator skin.

This is an alligator's head and teeth.

Next we saw a really big turtle shell. It was a sea turtle shell.

He showed a live turtle, it was big too.

We played a game called "Find the Animal Part."

He would show us an animal part from his box and if we had one to match his, we would pick it up.

He's showing us something from his box.

Now we're looking for the same thing.

Looks like Ethan found a match.

It's not making any noise.

Deterrian found part of a white skeleton.

We learned a lot from JL Scott!
