Beauvoir ART PROGRAM – SPRING UPDATE

Dear Parents,

Thanks to all of my TEAM ART parents for their assistance last semester.  We are beginning our spring semester and there is still plenty to do.  Please take a look at the attached list of opportunities to join us in the art studio.  The students and I both love to have visitors and extra help in art.

There are a couple of art contests that are just around the corner.  Fourth and fifth grade students have the opportunity to participate in a float making contest sponsored by Biloxi School and the Chamber.  This project is completed at home and requires no permission slip.  The second contest is The Coast History Week Contest open to all 1st – 4th grade students. This project may be completed in class and does require a permission slip.  If you filled one out at the beginning of the year, then I have it.  If you are new to our school or do not remember filling one out, a copy is available at the art website under parent information.  Just print it out and return it to the art room.  Permission slips are also available in the art room.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Art Program – December Update

Parents,

Please save shoeboxes, paper towel rolls, and toilet paper rolls for the 4th and 5th grade shoebox float contest sponsored by the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce.  This is usually in January.  Turn in items to the art room by Wednesday, January 13th.  See the art website for Mardi Gras Float examples from previous years.  These projects are completed at home, but I try to hand out as many shoeboxes and supplies as possible.

Art 2009-2010

Dear Parents,

This year is already off to a great start.  I would like to invite you to join TEAM ART (our parent art support group).  This group of parents helped to make last year one of our best.  Once again, I am looking for parents or other family members who would like to help by preparing art materials, displaying student artwork, assisting in the classroom with special projects, or with the art website.

Please visit the ART website by following the faculty and staff link from Beauvoir’s homepage* then click on Lisa Bouvette.  The site contains a virtual gallery of student artwork, scenes from our art studio, projects for each term, and links to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art.

Students will be learning and developing skills in drawing, painting, printmaking, weaving, collage, and sculpture.  Many different artists and cultures will also be explored throughout the year.

Please consider donating the following items for the art studio.

Grades K-3: paper plates, foil, wet wipes, & Kleenex

Grades 4 & 5:  shoeboxes (save for January – Mardi Gras Shoebox Floats), old cloth hand towels, & foam plates

Be a part of your child’s art experience by joining “TEAM ART” Please stop by the art studio located in room 110.  I may also be reached by phone during my planning time (2:50 – 4:00pm) or by email.

ART CONTEST PERMISSION FORM

Each year a variety of art contests are made available to students at Beauvoir.  Most of these contests ask for the student’s first and last name as well as their school and teacher.  These contests are not required, but many students wish to participate.  As part of the art program, I introduce the contests that relate to our already established art curriculum or school themes.  This allows students to work on their entries during art class.  I also package the artwork for submission.  Spring art contests include the Mardi Gras Shoebox Float Contest and The Coast History Week Contest.  Student artwork may be published in a calendar, shown on TV, or featured in a newspaper.  Students look forward to participating in these contests.  Please sign below giving Beauvoir/Jeff Davis permission to release your child’s artwork along with their first and last name for art contests.  If more detailed information is requested for a contest, individual permission slips will be provided.  If this form is not returned, I will not submit the artwork.

I give my permission for my child, _______________________________, to participate in art contests and for their full name and school to be released to the contest sponsor.
