Reading Objectives: This is a general overview of what
the teacher will teach and what the student is expected to master. 1 The student will use word recognition and vocabulary (word meaning) skills to communicate. a2 The student will apply knowledge of roots and affixes (e.g., –tion, -or, -ion, -ity, -ment, -ic, -ian, -ist, -ous, -eous, -ious, -ance, -ence, -ive, -en,) to determine and infer the meaning ofunfamiliar words. Assessments: Your
child will be assessed using both informal and formal assessments these include but are not limited to:
observational checklists, daily activities, vocabulary tests, quizzes,
chapter tests and term tests. The grading scheme is as follows: 55% tests,
35% activities, and 10% CTA. Homework/Assignments/Projects: Homework is due the following day unless otherwise specified; assignments are not accepted late except for an excused absence from school. Students are to read a minimum of 15 minutes a night. Independent books will be assigned. Course Requirements: Your
child will be expected to master all objectives with a 70% mastery for the
year to pass the subject area. Reteaching and Retesting:
Your child must attend the reteach session on the designated
day before retesting. Retesting usually takes place the following day after a

Grading follows the policies of Biloxi Public
Schools. A mid-term progress report and
a report card following the end of each term are issued. The student’s current grades are available via
