Popp's Ferry Fourth Graders took part in their annual Mississippi Day celebration on Friday, April 8, 2011. Students heard from speakers representing the USM History Department, Gulf Coast Research Lab, Hurricane Hunters, the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies, and Gulf Islands National Seashore. Students also had fun making lighthouses, painting oyster shells, drawing stories on "animal skins", and playing Mississippi Bingo. The highlight of the day was the Mississippi picnic, which included catfish, chicken, corn, okra, and grits. The grand finale was a watermelon social. Click on individual images to enlarge.
