Biloxi High alumnus Jackie Sherrill, former head coach at Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Pittsburgh, will return to Biloxi to help kickoff a new foundation to support Biloxi Public Schools athletics.
Sherill will be the featured speaker at the Big Red Athletic Foundation's inaugural membership drive and fundraising dinner at Biloxi High School. The event will be Thursday, Aug. 12 at 6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
The evening will also feature the new head football coach of the Biloxi Indians, John Shannon, former offensive coordinator at Marshall University, Toledo University, Troy University and Jackson State University. Persons attending the event will also be able to meet and speak with head coaches from other BHS varsity sports.
The Big Red Athletic Foundation was formed with the vision of improving all athletic programs within the Biloxi School District in cooperation with the Biloxi High School Athletic Department. The goal is to provide each student athlete with
a competitive advantage at the local, district, and state levels. The Foundation will work with the Athletic Department to promote excellence in athletics and create an environment that will encourage student athletes to compete at the highest level, affording each athlete the best opportunity to earn an athletic scholarship to schools of higher education. The Foundation has applied for, and expects to receive 501(c)(3) status, making contributions to the Foundation tax deductible.
