The Girls Track report from From Payton Ragon, Biloxi High School Physical Education Department Chair and Head Girls Track Coach:
The girls’ track team competed in the District 7-6A track meet held April 21 in Pascagoula. The Lady Indians came away with a decisive title of District Champs led by Camille Dunnings winning two events and Tisa Smith winning three events to help secure the victory. Tisa won the Long Jump (personal best 17’4”), 100 Hurdles, and 200 Dash races while Camille won the Shot and Discus. These ladies will move on to the Regional track meet this week which will be held here at Biloxi Stadium starting at 10:45am on next Saturday. Individuals had to place in the top 4 in their event to move on. Other individuals qualifying for Regionals next week and being part of the district title are:
Nachaska Wright placing 4th in high jump, 1st in 100 Dash &
3rd in 200 Dash
Samantha Morgan placing 2nd in the 3200 run & 1st in 1600 run
Jessica Haynes placing 1st in Triple Jump & 2nd in Long Jump
Courtney Fortenberry placing 3rd in Shot Put
Jada Cox placing 3rd in Triple Jump
Monique Ransom placing 1st in 400 Dash
Danielle Alvendia placing 2nd in Pole Vault
Miia Newman placing 3rd in Pole Vault
Diamond Legier placing 2nd in 100 hurdles
Aaliyah Leacock placing 4th in 1600 run & 4th in 3200 run Desiraee’ Jones placing 3rd in 300 hurdles
Miriam Logan placing 4th in 300 hurdles
Cheyenne Chesman placing 3rd in 400 Dash
Ariana Johnson placing 4th in 800 run
And finally, all three of the relay teams for the girls’ qualified for the Regional meet by finishing 1st in the 4x200, 1st in the 4x100, and 1st in the 4x400.
The Lady Indians won the District Title with a point total of 119; that beat the other competition by a total of 50 points.
The hard work in practice has paid off for our Lady Indians. A job well done and the coaches look forward to a run at the Regional Title next Saturday.
