Biloxi Public Schools will hold a Kindergarten Pre-Registration at elementary schools on Thursday, May 6, beginning promptly at 5:30 p.m. and Friday, May 7, 2010, beginning promptly at 9:30 a.m. Parents will hear an overview about each school, meet the kindergarten teachers and tour the school. Parents will have the opportunity to pre-register their child. By state law, kindergarten students must be five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2010. The following information is needed:
--- Certificate of Immunization on Mississippi Compliance Form (state law). May be obtained at the Health Department or Keesler Air Force Base Allergy Clinic; no shot records are acceptable.
--- Certified Copy of Birth Certificate (state law).
--- Student Social Security Number
--- Verification of Residency: Must provide two forms of proper documentation (state law). Proper documentation may include utility bills, driver’s license listing present address, voter precinct identification, automobile registration, filed Homestead Exemption application form, mortgage documents or property deed, apartment or home lease. Parents living in KAFB housing may present a copy of their housing assignment from Keesler's Housing Authority.
--- Guardianship: Legal guardians must provide a copy of their "Letters of Guardianship" signed by a judge, appointing them as guardian. No other document is acceptable. The student will not be permitted to enroll until this specific document is presented by the guardian to the school administration (district policy).
--- A custodial parent must present a copy of the latest divorce decree verifying that he or she is the student's custodial parent (district policy).

Biloxi team named state's best in SkillsUSA competition
The Biloxi High School Career Technology Team has been named the best in the state after taking part in the Mississippi SkillsUSA competition recently held at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College campuses.
Biloxi High had 11 students compete with students from around the state in various career technical program areas.
Biloxi's Quiz Bowl Team -- Ashley Bristol, Ashley Broussard, Craig Guichet and Chelsea Williams -- finished in first place, while Skylar Helman placed second in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Kelsey Ellis placed third in Architectural Drafting.
The SkillsUSA sponsors are David Parker, Dorothy Parker, Curtis Cotten, and Al Pickich.

Beauvoir Elementary to host Earth Day events: Students, teachers and staff at Beauvoir Elementary will celebrate Earth Day Thursday with a tree-planting ceremony and other activities. The events, sponsored by grocery retailer Winn Dixie and energy management specialist Schneider Electric, will grocery-bag decorating, Earth Day readings, and a visit from Mayor A.J. Holloway. The ceremony will take place from 9 to 10 a.m.
From Dr. Pitre at North Bay: Cookie dough orders from the recent fundraiser will be here on Tuesday, April 27th and should be picked up by parents between 1 and 4:30 that day from the gym. Additional cookie dough will be for sale in the school office that day as well for $16 a tub. Spring picture proof orders are due back to the school this Tuesday, April 20th. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders can earn 10 extra "Bay Bucks" for every MCT II practice test completed at home and sent back to the teacher with a parent signature.
All-Star Savanna: Mrs. Baldwin accompanied Savanna King to Jackson on April 15 for the STAR Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition Celebration. In fact, Savanna was upgraded to an All-Star and awarded a $500 scholarship for placing in the Top 20 of the state's 351 Star students, based on academic performance and test scores. |
