On Tuesday, February 2, 2010, the 10th annual District Reading Fair was held at the Dukate Building.
The Reading Fair provided students in kindergarten through 12th grade the opportunity to share their favorite fiction and non-fiction books through storyboard displays. Students competed in three divisions: Individual, Group, and Family.
First place winners from each of our elementary schools were represented at the District Reading Fair. The first place winners in each division will be invited to compete in the Southern Regional Reading Fair that will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at the Lake Terrace Convention Center in Hattiesburg.
This year’s theme was “I Love to Read!” About 50 students from Biloxi elementary schools were in this year’s competition. Each student was given a Certificate of Participation, “I Love to Read!” bookbag, bookmarks, and pencils (a red pencil in the shape of a heart). These prizes were provided by the Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce. Also, first, second, third, and honorable mention ribbons were awarded to all participants.
