Students to appear in cemetery program; other news and notes
10/27/2009

Six Biloxi High School drama students will portray leaders of the Biloxi of yesteryear in this evening’s tour of the Biloxi city cemetery.

The annual cemetery tours, which were inaugurated with the re-dedication of the cemetery two years ago, will be this evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the beachfront cemetery. There is no admission fee and free refreshments will be served, courtesy of Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.

Here is a list of the prominent citizens and the students who will portray them:

--- Rosa Dorsey Reynoir, portrayed by Devin Cady

--- Anthony Nicolas Benachi, portrayed by Sean Harding

--- Florian Seal, portrayed by Frankee Trey Harris

--- Elizabeth Carson Maycock Elmer, portrayed by Erika Barber

--- John C Delauney, portrayed by Carlton Warnberg

--- Raymond Caillavet, portrayed by Corey Gaspard

Two others involved in the program will be home-schooled student Claire Deaton, who will portray Linda Dukate; and adult re-enactor Jerry Williams, who will portray Juan de Cuevas.

Biloxi swimmers shine in state swim meet

Several stars from the Biloxi swim team emerged at the state swim meet held at the Natatorium over the weekend. Among them were state champ Gabby Aranda, a senior; and third-place finisher Chris Boucher, a sophomore.

"There were 519 swimmers, 43 teams and many more spectators packed into the Natatorium," said girls coach Joan Petry. "The girls took 9th and the boys took 4th this year. Gabby Aranda took two first places, the 100 fly and the 200 Individual medley. Although Gabby is graduating and we will miss her next year, we have a lot of talented young men and women coming up. We are encouraging them all to stay and swim on the city's year round BEST team, which will help our chances to improve for next year's rankings."
