Coaching the district-champion Lady Indians volleyball team "has been a dream come true," says Coach Dedra Wedgeworth, who saw the varsity team finish with an 18-2 varsity record and a district title.
"I have always wanted to coach a team that felt more like a family than a group of girls that happened to be on the same sports team," says Wedgeworth, who coached the squad with Coach Payton Ragon. "That is exactly what happened this year with us. When we started working out this summer, it took a while for the trust and camaraderie to build but as you can see from our 18-2 varsity record and our 11-4 junior varsity record that is exactly what happened.
"We may be losing a few seniors but I am very excited about next year. The junior varsity team actually won the St. Martin Junior Varsity Invitational Volleyball Tournament, which proves that they are ready to take on any team in our district next year."

JROTC Drill Team brings home more honors
Biloxi High School's Air Force Junior ROTC Drill Team won several awards in the Gulf Breeze Regional Drill Championship on Oct. 17.
The competition featured 17 teams from Florida, Alabama and Mississippi and was judged in two categories, Armed and Unarmed.
Overall winners in the Armed Division were Biloxi, first place; Escambia, second place; and third place, Mount Dora. In the Unarmed Division, Biloxi finished in third place, while Navarre was second and Escambia was first.
"Our teams finished in the top three in every event," said MSgt. Kenneth Meltom., who noted that the drill team will compete next in the Ocean Springs Regional Championship on Oct. 31.
Football scheduling: An update
Monday's junior varsity football game with Pascagoula has been canceled; however, the ninth grade team will host Pascagoula Monday at 5 p.m.
