Second Cup of Coffee planned for Friday morning
11/13/2008

Biloxi Public Schools will hold another “2nd Cup of Coffee” on Friday morning at schools throughout the district.

The event is a a district-wide parent involvement event at each school.

“2nd Cup of Coffee is an informal time for you to come by and visit with principals and other school personnel to build relationships and keep lines of communication open,” said Dr. Karen Norwood, the district’s director of assessment and federal programs. “You are invited to stop by and have your second cup of coffee of the day to talk about whatever you would like.”

Times will vary at each school, since school days begin at different times, but parents will be notified through Connect-Ed messages. Banners also will be hung at each school to promote the event.

New photos, video now in online gallery

The district’s online Photo and Video Gallery now includes albums of photos and video from several school events.

Visitors can find a new two-minute video compilation of the Michel Seventh Grade football team’s perfect season, as well as photos from the Junior ROTC’s involvement in several events surrounding Veterans Day, Homecoming 2008 and the production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.”

District website named best in state

The Biloxi Public School District’s website has been named the best in the state, winning a first place Award of Excellence from the Mississippi School Public Relations Association.

The site, www.biloxischools.net, serves as an information portal for the district and its 11 schools. The site was re-designed in 2008 and patterned after the City of Biloxi’s multiple-award-winning web site, biloxi.ms.us.

The district’s e-newsletter, The Windtalker, received a second place award in the external e-newsletters category. The awards were announced at the annual Mississippi School Public Relations Association luncheon, Nov. 7, in Jackson.

“The Biloxi Public School District is making a focused effort to share the school district's achievements and challenges with the citizens of Biloxi," said Superintendent Dr. Paul A. Tisdale. "The district website is the foundation of our public relations efforts; our e-newsletter, The Windtalker, and quarterly publication, The Arrow, support our goal of having a better informed community. It's encouraging and reassuring that professional organizations, such as the Mississippi School Public Relations Association, recognize our efforts.”
