Members of the student council at Biloxi High School are hoping to help make the transition easier for incoming sophomores and new students by providing tours of the massive school today, a day before classes are scheduled to begin.
The tours – scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. – are open to all sophomores, new students and parents.
Student Council President Kendall Gregory Jr. believes the tours should take some of the anxiety out of the first day of school.
“My first day, I was lost for most of the day, and I had no idea where I was going,” Gregory said. “The teachers were great, but I think having some idea beforehand, and hearing it from fellow students, will make things much easier.”
The tours will begin in the high school’s lecture hall and will include “an orientation from a student’s point of view, including such things as first-day procedures, lunch-line procedures, club orientations, and so forth,” Gregory said, noting that the tours also are open to anyone interested.
Besides Gregory, assisting in the tours will be members of the student council: Student Body Vice President Hardy DeLaughter, Recording Secretary Lindsey Brown, Corresponding Secretary Ryann Russell,
Treasurer Amy Hebert,
Assistant Treasurer Coby Greer,
Parliamentarian Cooper Powers,
Historian Jennifer Le,
Council-Student Body Liaison Jennifer Cain,
Special Projects Coordinator Taylor Cook,
and
board members Kendall Holloway and Jennifer Bui.
