Four Biloxi elementary schools -– Popp’s Ferry, Gorenflo, North Bay and Lopez -- have successfully completed grant applications and will share $100,000 in the Project Fit America program, which includes physical fitness activites and outdoor fitness equipment.
The Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation will be formally notifying the Biloxi Public School District of the grant this week.
Representatives of Project Fit America had previously met with each of the schools to help facilitate the grant applications. Plans are to see equipment installed at the individual schools in July, and training for the Project Fit America activities will be provided to trainers Kim Berg and Amanda Martin in August.
Three Biloxi schools -- Nichols, Beauvoir and Jeff Davis -- are already members of the Project Fit America program.
