The lineup of individual workshops has been announced for this year's inaugural Parent Academy, which will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 30, and Superintendent Arthur McMillan hopes that parents take advantage of the gathering.
The 30-minute sessions, which will be conducted between 5 and 7 p.m. at Biloxi Junior High School, will cover such topics such as technology, testing, strategies to help students, sports, special services and others. Each parent will be able to attend three sessions.

National program honors Biloxi football players for academics, athletics
Twenty-five members of the Biloxi High School football team have been selected by Scholar Baller for the 2011 season, and eight of the honorees are receiving the recognition for the second year.
In 2010, Biloxi became the first school in the state to be awarded participation in the National Academic/Athletic Program of Scholar Baller. Universities, colleges, junior colleges and high schools from across the country are involved in the program.
Scholar Baller is designed to inspire athletes to excel in education as well as on the athletic field. The program integrates education and sports as a way of motivating and rewarding athletes who perform on the field and in the classroom.
Scholar Baller also teaches young adults that excellence in the classroom and on the athletic field should be the goal of student athletes.
“We feel that if we combine education with sports, young people will want to live up to and perform up to the standards and goals that you set for them," said Biloxi High School Football Coach John Shannon. "We believe that a lifestyle that incorporates educational rewards will motivate today’s student athletes.”
