The cross country team and many of their parents took part in a service project Saturday on Biloxi Beach as part of the Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce beach planting project. Cross Country Booster Club President Lisa Clark coordinated the team’s effort for this event. The team joined several hundred volunteers to help plant grass oats on a portion of the beach south or Miramar Park. 8th grader Aaliyah Leacock said “I enjoy getting out and doing something for the community and the environment.” Biloxi High Junior and All State Runner Shannen Weyer echoed Leacock’s sentiments, “I’m happy to have the chance to do something for the community, it always makes me feel good to help out with these kinds of projects.”

The team worked for about two hours on phase two of the Chamber’s beach planting project. Biloxi’s cross country team played an important role in helping plant close to 7,000 grass oats Saturday morning. Head coach William Harper said he was proud of his team for helping with this particular project: “This is my old neighborhood and I’m glad our team could be here to take part in preserving this stretch of beach” Harper added.
