Beauvoir

Updated July 2, 2010

Dates, times of registration

Registration for parents of all students planning to attend Biloxi Public Schools takes place Thursday and Friday, July 29 and 30, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school your child will be attending.

To see general information on registration -- including a school zone map and list of supplies for elementary students -- click here.

Notes for the 2010-2011 school year:

Note 1: Please remember that students entering grades 9-12 will register at Biloxi High School; students entering grades 6-8 will register at Biloxi Junior High School; students in grades K-5 will register at the elementary school in their attendance zone.

Note 2: Students who have resided in the Nichols Elementary School attendance zone in previous years will attend Gorenflo Elementary School.

Note 3: Beauvoir Elementary School students have been reassigned to either Popp’s Ferry Elementary School or Jeff Davis Elementary School for school year 2010-2011. Students residing in Tanglewood subdivision, Bent Oaks subdivision or Thrower Park (military housing) will attend Popp’s Ferry Elementary School.  All other Beauvoir Elementary School students will attend Jeff Davis Elementary School.

Note 4: All 6th grade students will attend Biloxi Junior High School.

Two types of proof of residency

Parents of all students who are registering in Biloxi Schools must show two proofs of residency at the time of registration.

Among the types that are allowed (remember, two types are required):

--- Utility bills (water, gas, electric)

--- Driver’s license listing present address

       --- Voter precinct identification

       --- Automobile registration

--- Filed Homestead Exemption application form

--- Mortgage documents or property deed, apartment or home lease.

--- Parents living in KAFB housing may present a copy of their housing assignment from Keesler's Housing Authority.

Which school your child will attend

To see a detailed map of attendance zones for the district's four elementary schools, click here.

Biloxi has one junior high school and one high school. However, if you are unsure which elementary school zone you live in, you can call the Student Services office at (228) 374-1810, extension 125, or you can e-mail aimee.brown@biloxischools.net.

Biloxi residents living north of I-10, (and south of I-10 in some areas such as Eagle Point) although now part of the city of Biloxi, do not reside in the Biloxi Public School District.  These residents are in the Harrison County School District.  Students living in this area of the city may attend Biloxi Public Schools on a tuition basis.

Requirements for new students

In addition to the two types of proof of residency, parents of new students must provide these documents:

        (1) certified copy of the student’s birth certificate,

        (2) Certificate of Immunization issued by the state of Mississippi, and

        (3) the student’s Social Security Number.
New students in grades 8-12 can speed their registration by providing an unofficial transcript from the school last attended.

Students who received special services and have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) from their previous school should contact Mr. Steve Huckaby for further instructions: (228) 435-4600, or steve.huckaby@biloxischools.net.

Age requirements

Students entering kindergarten must be 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2010.

Students entering first grade must be 6 on or before Sept. 1, 2010.

A few words about late registration: Parents are encouraged to register their children during the July 29-30 registration times; they must register their children no later than Friday, August 6, for children to attend the first day of school, Wednesday, August 11.

Late Registration, Important Note: Those parents who are unable to register their children prior to Friday, August 6, must pick up registration packets for their children on Monday or Tuesday, August 9 or 10, and return the completed packets on Wednesday, August 11 for processing. The first day of school for these late registrants is Friday, August 13.

Other things you should know

--- Returning students will not be permitted to complete registration until they have satisfied any outstanding fines, fees or other charges from previous school years; they also will not be allowed to register until all required information has been provided.

--- Change of course selections by new students must be made on or before Friday, August 6, 2010.
(The deadline for returning students was April 30, 2010.)

--- New students will receive their schedule on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 11.

--- Students in grades 9-12 who wish to purchase parking decals at registration must present a license tag receipt and proof of insurance.  Parking decals are $5. Students who operate a motorized vehicle on campus are subject to the district's drug testing policy.

--- Students who are entering the Biloxi Public School District from a home-schooled or unaccredited setting should contact the Student Services office, (228) 374-1810 extension 125, for instructions before registration.
