Travis Coakley, Director of Bands

Mr. Coakley is the Director of Bands for the Biloxi Public Schools in Biloxi, MS.  Formerly the Director of Bands at Irmo High School in Columbia, SC and the Assistant Director of Bands at Tate High School in Pensacola, FL he has been blessed to work with terrific directors and students.  His instructors and mentors include Dwight Hollingsworth, Glen Buckalew, Jackie Davidson, Ray Young, Dr. Marta Hofacre, Dr. Gary Adam, Dr. Steven Moser, Dr. Thomas Fraschillo, and James Copenhaver.

Mr. Coakley is a native of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg.

Bill Lee, Assistant Band Director

Mr. Lee is a graduate of Mississippi State University. In 1987 he began his teaching career in the Biloxi Public Schools at Fernwood Jr. High School. During that first year he was named the Biloxi Rookie Teacher of the Year by the Biloxi Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Lee is a member of the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity as well as the MississippiBandmasters Association and the Gulf Coast Band Directors Association. He is a past president of the Gulf Coast Band Directors Association and was a past recipient of the GCBDA Jr. High Director of the Year award. Mr. Lee is also a member of the 41st Army Band with the Mississippi National Guard.

Mr. Lee helps teach the beginning band students and directs the high school jazz band and the high school Concert Band.

Anna Schwartz, Assistant Band Director

Mrs. Schwartz is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and a native of Gulfport, MS.  After creating very successful band programs in the Gulfport and Ocean Springs districts she now oversees the Biloxi Beginning Band program and directs the Intermediate Band.

Mrs. Schwartz is a member of the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity and was recently named by SBO Magazine as one 50 band directors nationally that “make a difference!”

Bill Crowell, Assistant Band Director

Mr. Crowell is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi.  In 1978 he began his teaching in the Biloxi Public School District at Nichols Junior High School.  Mr. Crowell is a member of the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster's Fraternity as well as the Mississippi Bandmasters Association and the Gulf Coast Band Director's Association.  He has served as treasurer of the GCBDA for the past five years.  He has spent the past 34 years teaching instrumental music in the Biloxi Public School District.  He has recently announced that he will be retiring effective May 25, 2012 and looks forward to watching the Biloxi Band program continue to grow and prosper.

Mr. Crowell helps teach the beginning band students, directs the Advanced Band and assists at the high school.
