Michel

Michel

Michel Sixth Grade School is named for Mary L. Michel, a former principal at Biloxi High School.

Mary L. Michel Junior High School opened in 1955, with a construction cost of $529,000. In 1983, the school closed, due to declining enrollment, and months later re-opened as Michel Alternative School. In 1985, the school was reconfigured as Michel Middle School, serving Grades 6, 7 and 8. In 1995, it was re-configured again as Michel Junior High School, serving Grades 7, 8 and 9, and in 2002 was re-configured as Michel Seventh Grade School. With the 2009 school year, Michel was re-configured yet again, as Michel Sixth Grade School.
