Seafood pioneer William F. Gorenflo donated the original land and building where Gorenflo Elementary opened in 1924. Cost of construction by Collins Brothers: $48, 470.75. Over the years, many additions were made to the school, and in 2004 the Biloxi school district constructed a new, $10 million school on the site.
