Tuition Information and Procedures
REVISED February 11, 2008; these revisions, in blue print below, become effective for the 2008-09 school year.

NOTE: Students living outside the school district, even if displaced by Katrina,
will be tuition students for school year 2008-09.  (BOARD ACTION, JANUARY 15, 2008)

Biloxi Public Schools accepts tuition students on an individual basis subject to approval by the School Board.  Consideration is given to those students who have an excellent attendance record, good grades, and an outstanding disciplinary history.

Below you will find listed the documents needed to apply for tuition status in the Biloxi School District.  Please note that no tuition packet will be processed until all three (3) documents in the tuition packet are returned to the office of Student Services. Please return the documents together as a packet; tuition packets will not be processed until all documents are completed and payment for the first semester has been made.

To ensure that your child is approved for enrollment in Biloxi Public Schools as a tuition student, the tuition packet should be returned to the office of Student Services no later than June 30, for action by the Board at the regularly scheduled July Board meeting.  (Tuition approval at the August Board meeting may result in the student missing the first few weeks of school since school starts before the regularly scheduled Board meeting.)

Please note that there are two tuition scales based on whether or not you reside in the Biloxi city limits but outside the Biloxi Public School district (commonly referred to as the "annexed area" or "Woolmarket" that includes Wells Ferry subdivision) or outside the city limits.  (BOARD ACTION, MAY 10, 2005)

For students whose parents/guardians reside in the annexed area:  (BOARD ACTION, MAY 10, 2005)
The tuition charge, per student, is $1,000.00 per year.
Payment schedule is as follows: $500 prior to enrollment; $250 by October 1; $250 by December 1.

For 2008-2009, students whose parents/guardians reside in the annexed area: (BOARD ACTION, JANUARY 15, 2008)
The tuition charge, per student, is $500.00 per year.
Payment schedule is as follows: $250 prior to enrollment; $125 by October 1; $125 by December 1.

For students whose parents/guardians reside outside the annexed area, i.e., outside the city limits:
The tuition charge, per student, is $1,200.00 per year.
Payment schedule is as follows: $600 prior to enrollment; $300 by October 1; $300 by December 1.

The tuition fee, on a semester basis, is only refundable if the student has not begun the semester.  For example, a student whose tuition is paid in full but withdraws prior to the beginning of the second semester and does not attend a single day in the second semester will receive a refund of have the tuition upon request by the parent/guardian.

The school district may restrict tuition students from some Biloxi schools based on overcrowding.

  1. Tuition Student Application - This form must be requested from the office of Student Services, (228) 374-1810, X-125.
  2. Tuition Student Behavior Statement - The top of this form must be completed by the parent/guardian and then given to the principal of the releasing school in order to be completed. This form must be completed in its entirety by the principal (or his/her designee) of your child’s last school. If your child is entering kindergarten for the first time, this form is not necessary.
  3. Student Release Form - Before any tuition paper work can be presented to the Biloxi School Board, we must have on file in this office a student release form for your child. This form is obtained from your home school district. The process for obtaining a student release is different for each district. Please contact your home school district and they will inform you as to the procedure you must follow to obtain this form. The enclosed form is a courtesy form, your home school district may choose to use this form or they may choose to use a form of their own.
  4. Tuition Fee - $500/per student per year if the family resides in the annexed (Woolmarket) area of the city of Biloxi; $1,200/per student per year if the family resides outside the city limits of Biloxi.  Half of the tuition fee is payable before the student enrolls in school i.e., attends a day of school; one fourth of the tuition is due by October 1st; the final fourth is due prior to December 1st.  Students will be required to withdraw from school for the second semester if tuition payments are not made by these deadlines (October 1 and December 1).
  5. Note - Tuition status is for one school year only. This process must be completed each year for your child to remain a tuition student in the Biloxi School District.

The School Board currently meets on the second Tuesday of each month; beginning July 1, 2007, the School Board will meet the third Tuesday of each month. In order to meet Board deadlines, all paperwork must be in Dr. Spink's office no later than the last day of the previous month.   Example: Board meeting is on Tuesday, August 21, paper work must be in Dr. Spink's office no later than Tuesday, July 31, in order to be submitted to the Board at the August 21, board meeting.

If you have any questions concerning the procedure, please call Dr. Spink's office at 228-374-1810, extension 125.
